Allyson and John Coleman Wedding Recap

Finally got the photos back from the wedding reception of Allyson and John Coleman. A great couple with a lot to teach even the oldest of the couples.

Hope you enjoy!

Mixed In Key Review

Its been a month since I got a new program called, Mixed in Key and I have mixed feelings. To sum it up, Mixed in Key identifies the key, BPM, and its energy (part of the latest release) of a song. This is supposed to help me know which songs will mix with one another.

It does what it is supposed to do, and it does help me find two songs that would work in harmony together;  however, I often find myself mixing to the harmony rather than what song the crowd would want to hear next.

Mixed in Key also has this "energy" metric that takes into account build ups in songs and associates those build ups with a numerical number 1-10, 10 being highest energy  I don't know how I feel about this yet, since I can see me falling into a trap where I base my next song on a number the program made.

I think it is a dangerous tool that a beginner could use to fall into a robotic way of DJing. You would assume that if it blends well, then it mixes well. You have to be careful that even though the songs work together  nothing works better than experience and your own ear.

That being said, for $50 dollars it is a great investment and I would recommend it to any level DJ. The main point to take away is that this software helps. It does not do, it assists.

Alexe and Mike 2012 Wedding

This past weekend I had the fortunate opportunity to not only DJ, but be a groomsmen, in a wedding. Doing both is not an easy feat; however, was an experience I would never trade.

Knowing the couple so closely made my job that much easier and the bangers kept coming. From oldies, to 80's, to 90's, top 40, and even country.

I only hope they had as much fun as I did DJing as they looked like they did dancing. On a side note, the B212D's were plenty loud but will probably bring a bigger sub woofer to the next gig (which is Nov. 5th in Philly - Michael and Joni)

Behringer B212D Review

The other day I had a chance to test out my new Behringer B212D speakers at an outdoor event and the feedback I have is mostly positive.

First, the range of these speakers are incredible. I had the level on my VCI-300MKII up 1/4 of the way and the speakers were also up a 1/4 of the way. Moreover, they were easy to transport in my car and very light weight.

I was able to hear the music from 50 yards away very clearly, despite being outdoors in an open field. Set up was as simple as plug and play and the only con would have to be the low end sound (which I can easily fix with a small powered sub woofer.

I would have to give these a 4.5 out of 5 for overall experience and highly recommend these to other mobile DJ's.
